It takes commitment & effort and it never works like it does in Hollywood (maybe that's why so many "Hollywood" marriages end). It's definitely not for the faint of heart!
I've been married for nearly 8 years, hardly an expert on the subject! What I know about marriage thus far; it comes with great joy, security, passion, tenderness, friendship, humour, sharing as well as times of loneliness, long-suffering, frustration, selfishness and brokenness. It's not always an easy road, but it is a rewarding road, an exciting road and every now and again a slightly terrifying road.
One of my favourite quotes on the subject is from the movie "Forces of Nature"- Quoting Bishop Jeremy Taylor, "Marriage hath in it less of beauty but more of safety, than the single life; it hath more care, but less danger, it is more merry, and more sad; it is fuller of sorrows, and fuller of joys; it lies under more burdens, but it is supported by all the strengths of love and charity, and those burdens are delightful."
I'm thankful for my marriage, I'm thankful for the journey we share- tough or easy, in good times or bad we are in it together.
Little bits of thankfulness...my perspective on things I'm grateful for; there are more than I could ever recount!
